Lewis P. Jones III, former President of the Harvard Club of New York City and current Harvard Alumni Association Appointed Director for New York City.
Mr. Jones was part of the college class of 1974, and he is a former Scholar and former director of the HCNY Foundation. He shared these reflections about his experience as a Foundation Scholar:
“After so many years, thinking back to when I received word of my selection as a Harvard Club of New York Foundation Scholar almost puts these reflections into a once-upon-a-time context. This award is probably more closely tied to my emotional bonds with the Club than the College. As a high school senior, my alumni interview preceded my campus visit in Cambridge. It was the Club that provided my first formal connection to Harvard. The architecture of the Club’s main (at that time only) building seemed plucked right out of the world of Harvard as I imagined it – imposing, grand and excellent. Receiving the award and the financial aid that accompanies it, helped make Harvard financially possible for me. For a young man at the beginning of what was a transformative experience, the recognition provided an extra and welcome gust of wind at my back.”
