Last year, the HCNY Foundation initiated a grant to support Harvard Medical School students visiting New York City hospitals for away rotations. Month-long away rotations are sought by medical students to enhance their applications to competitive residency programs, allowing them clinical and/or research experience in their intended fields. Travel, housing, and living expenses for away rotations are typically self-funded, contributing to barriers for entry in competitive specialties. The Foundation seeks to facilitate HMS students’ access to the superb academic medical institutions of New York City with these stipends.

Rotation at NYU in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
I am very grateful to the HCNY Foundation for supporting my month in New York City. Their generous grant allowed me to complete an away rotation at NYU in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The rotation was highly educational, allowing me to gain experience at both Tisch and Bellevue Hospital. I had the chance to meet and work with many excellent residents and surgeons. It addition, the grant gave me ample opportunity to explore all the city has to offer.
