SCHOLARS’ EVENTS

Cambridge Dinner
Every fall, The Foundation hosts a dinner in Cambridge to honor our Scholars. The dinner is scheduled to coincide with the annual autumn Harvard Alumni Association meeting so both current directors and former directors active in the HAA are on hand. Typically all of the Scholars attend and it is a great opportunity for the newest class of Scholars to meet one another, older students and the Alumni/ae and University Administration who are so essential to keeping the Foundation vibrant. We hear from the returning scholars that it is a high point for them of the fall and a chance to connect with Directors past and current with similar interests.

Holiday Lunch
During Winter break, we have recently begun a tradition of hosting a January luncheon at the HCNY for the Scholars to get together with one another and with the current directors. This informal gathering is a great time for the first year Scholars to ask questions from older students and the directors about choosing a concentration and for all of the Scholars to share questions and reflections about summer and full time job searches, internship opportunities and various programs offered by the Foundation.

Mid Semester Brunch

Every few months, the Foundation hosts Cambridge brunch events so the Scholars on campus have a chance to get together off campus to relax with one another and enjoy a non University prepared meal

Graduation Lunch
Annually we invite the recently graduated Scholars to join with their families and the Foundation Directors at the HCNY for a weekend brunch. It is a celebratory atmosphere which seems especially meaningful to the Scholars’ family members who attend to meet other graduating students, ask questions of the Directors about their paths after college and generally to bask in their children’s accomplishments.

OTHER EVENTS ANNUAL EVENTS

Winter Happy Hour
During February, we host a meet and greet for Scholar alumni/ae to get together at the HCNY for an informal gathering with Directors and other friends of the Foundation. It is a nice excuse for all to connect and muse about plans for spring and summer. 

Summer Cocktail Party
Every June we host an event on the roof of the HCNY for all scholars past and present, current graduate  students at other schools at the University who have received stipends or fellowships for their summer projects in NYC and all current and past directors. This multigenerational event seems to be a hit with everyone. What is planned as a two hour event usually extends for hours as our community enjoys one another’s company and are inspired in new directions.

Summer Welcome for NYPD/Kennedy School Students
Each year we welcome our newest  NYPD recipient of the Foundation Scholarship which underwrites the cost of tuition to receive a one year advanced degree at the Kennedy School. Typically, our current and past directors attend, along with past NYPD recipients and many high ranking officers from the NYPD with insights about the current state of policing in NYC.
