Meet Our Graduate Fellows

While the HCNY Foundation started with a focus on providing scholarship funds for Harvard College students, it has since expanded its activities.

Sergeant Jon Murad

Jon Murad is a sergeant with the New York City Police Department. As a police officer and detective, he has worked as a field intelligence officer in Bronx housing projects, helped create an unprecedented international police-mentoring program that deploys active-duty NYPD officers to Haiti, and provided strategy and analysis for an array of issues and projects germane to the nation’s largest police service. He has helped develop the NYPD’s counter-terrorism capabilities, enhanced its cybersecurity protocols, and investigated incidents ranging from officer-involved shootings to the euthanasia of retired police horses. Jon is a graduate of Harvard College and also has a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. He was the 2012 recipient of the Raymond W. Kelly Graduate Scholarship, and was honored to deliver the Graduate Oration at Harvard University’s 362nd Commencement in 2013. He lives in the Bronx with his wife, Vonnie, and children, MacArthur and Cady Elizabeth.
